Sugar Pine Island at Cottonwood is one of Calgary’s newer wedding venues, with renovations completed in Spring 2025.
It’s gorgeous, modern, and the layout is ideal for both guests and vendors.
In my own experience as a DJ (Mico Entertainment), I can easily say this is one of the best wedding venues in Calgary.

The Layout
One of the biggest advantages of Sugar Pine Island is how flexible the layout is.
Inside, you’ve got two main spaces:
Maple Room is typically used for dinner and speeches, and it can comfortably seat up to around 200 guests. The main bar is located here as well.
The room does have its own built-in sound system with 2 wireless microphones, suitable for background music and speeches. However, as a DJ, I always prefer to use my own, as it's more powerful and easier to fine-tune.

The large glass doors create a really nice backdrop with the forest behind them — a great spot for the head table.

We set up our speaker toward the back of the room, closer to the bar. It stays out of sight, and the sound carries well throughout the space.
Birch Room is a separate space that’s often used for the dance floor area.

At a recent wedding we did (around 160 guests), the weather turned after the ceremony, so cocktails ended up happening in here as well. It worked out great.
If you’re planning a wedding, our Calgary wedding DJ packages are built around that full-day experience.

It's a perfect room for dancing, with a nice cozy spot for the DJ setup, opposite the bar.

Having two separate rooms does require a bit of coordination to move people from Maple into Birch for the dance floor — but when it’s handled properly (vendors and MC working together), the transition is easy.
For smaller weddings, you can also keep everything in one space. It’s nice to have that flexibility.

We also captured a short clip from this wedding — it gives a better feel for the space once everything’s in motion. You can watch it on YouTube here.
The Space Itself
The whole venue is brand new, vibrant, and super clean.
white walls
large windows with metal frames
tons of natural light
elegant chandeliers
a polished, marble-style floor
It looks amazing in photos.

Outdoor Ceremony
The outdoor ceremony space is tucked into nature, which gives it a nice, private, relaxed feel. At the same time, it’s only a short walk back to the reception area.

Power is accessible for the ceremony, but I typically use a battery-powered setup so I can position everything closer to the back row — keeping it out of photos and avoiding visible cables.
I like when everything is close together — guests don’t get lost, and transitions between ceremony, cocktails, and dinner are smooth. If it starts raining, inside is only a few steps away.
There’s also plenty of space around the property for first look photos and portraits — the natural setting gives you that quiet, tucked-away feel without having to leave the venue.

Final Thoughts
Sugar Pine Island at Cottonwood is gorgeous, well-designed and easy to navigate. It gives you a modern setting with plenty of indoor and outdoor space to make your wedding come to life.
