Choosing the right DJ can make or break a wedding. The music, vibe, sound quality, and lighting all work together to set the tone and create an atmosphere that invites people to relax and have fun.
There are a lot of choices when you start looking for a wedding DJ. These six green flags can help you find someone who genuinely cares about your experience and understands your vision.

1. Fast, Friendly, Human Communication
A quick reply and an easy conversation go a long way. How a DJ communicates when you first reach out is usually how they’ll act on your wedding day, and the months leading up. It’s not a small thing — communication is everything, especially for weddings.
Green flag:
Replies quickly
Happy to explain things or arrange a phone call
Doesn't pressure or use scare tactics
Makes you feel at ease
You vibe with them
A good DJ understands that couples may have lots of questions. These questions may already be answered on the website / FAQ / pricing sheet. That's not a problem. Good DJs are patient and kind. They don’t get annoyed by questions — they’re happy to help.
Red flag:
Slow replies
Short answers
Grumpy tone
2. Consistently Strong Reviews
Dozens or hundreds of five-star reviews are a great sign. Honestly, that's a baseline if you want peace of mind in the months leading up to your wedding. But don’t stop at the star rating — take a closer look at the details.
Green flag:
Lots of recent reviews
Detailed feedback (not just “Great DJ!”)
Real people leaving the reviews, not bots, not just family members
No DJ is flawless every single time. What matters is whether the overall pattern is positive, consistent, and professional.
If you see a less-than-perfect review, pay attention to how it’s written and how the DJ responds.
Every DJ starts somewhere. No one begins with tons of reviews. A newer DJ can be a great fit for a simple, casual celebration, while a highly reviewed, experienced DJ is usually the best choice couples who want it to be epic, smooth, and stress-free.
Red flag:
Very few reviews overall
Most reviews are vague or generic
Hostile responses to criticism, or no response at all
3. Real Photos & Videos
A good starting point is a DJ’s website or Instagram. A solid DJ should have recent photos and videos from real weddings — not just stock images or blurry videos from 2009.
A photo says a thousand words, and a video says ten thousand. You can't really fake the vibe, you can sense it right away.
Green flag:
Dance floor clips that feel natural and fun
Clean setups that look good in photos
It looks like what you want to see at your wedding
You’re not looking for over-the-top, look-at-me influencer energy — you’re looking for proof of fun.
Not every good DJ is good at social media. If you can see guests genuinely having fun, that’s what matters most.
Red flag:
Outdated website
Stock / cringe photos
No proof of fun
4. They Focus on Vibe, Not Ego
Great wedding DJs don’t try to be the main character. This isn't Coachella, this is a wedding.
Green flag:
Asks you about your music taste, your guests, your vibe
Adjusts music based the crowd's energy
Prioritizes selection, timing, and volume control
At weddings, it’s not about showing off technical skills — it’s about playing the right song at the right time, following the directions of the couple, and playing what people actually want to hear.
Red flag:
DJs doesn't ask questions
Doesn't listen
Brags
5. Transparent Pricing & Honest Guidance
One of the biggest stress points for couples is not knowing what something actually costs.
You can see everything we offer and what it costs, right here on our weddings page.
Green flag:
Pricing is clearly listed and explained upfront
You know what’s included — and what’s optional
No surprise fees after you inquire
Transparent pricing shows confidence. DJs who are clear about their rates usually have nothing to hide and are happy to let people make decisions without pressure.
A good DJ will be happy to explain what upgrades are worth it, and what upgrades don't suit the venue or the vibe you're going for. Sometimes, less is more.
Red flag:
No pricing data available
Pushing for the most expensive packages every time
Pressuring to get on a call before you’re given basic numbers
Quick caveat: Many DJs without listed prices aren’t trying to be sneaky — some are simply less active online and rely on word of mouth or referrals rather than websites and social media.
6. Clear Process & Expectations
Professional DJs run their business clearly. They use detailed planning forms, ask the right questions early, and request key information well in advance. Written agreements help everyone know exactly what’s expected, so nothing is left to chance.
Green flag:
Detailed written agreements
Thoughtful planning forms
Requests floor plans, timelines, MC scripts in advance
This is all about reducing stress and avoiding surprises. A wedding is a very special event, it happens live, and we only get one chance. Preparation makes all the difference.
When expectations are clear, everyone is on the same page, and everything flows.
Red flag: Vague answers, no paperwork, or “we’ll figure it out later.”
Final Thought
The best wedding DJs aren’t the loudest and flashiest — they’re the ones who are prepared, present, and genuinely care about your day.
If you notice these six green flags, you’re on the right track.
If you’d like to chat about your wedding, ask questions, or just get honest advice (even if you don’t book), feel free to reach out through the Contact page. I’m always happy to help.
